“On the Margins” is a Collaborative Research Network that brings together academics, practitioners and activists involved or interested in collaborative research, participatory methods and knowledge co-production, with specific focus on marginalised groups and communities. Inspired by ongoing calls to democratise the research process, the Network will critically explore key issues concerning research co-production including its benefits and shortcomings, ethics and power relations, empowerment and participation, as well as latest methodologies and innovations in the field. “On the Margins” aims to be an inclusive and empowering forum, allowing practitioners and activists working with or representing people on the margins of society to engage with academics as equal partners in knowledge production. Its overall ambition is to open up new ways for working together and understanding the world.
The key objectives of the network are to:
- Critically explore current issues in the field of participatory research and co-production
- Develop new research collaborations and ways of knowing the world
The Network will be organising a range of events and activities that include, but not limited to, workshops, webinars, podcasts, blogs, thinkpieces, etc. For more information about our activities please see the ‘Events’ page.
“On the Margins” is funded by the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
